Camden hotels
Camden's Landmark Lock Bridge

The quintessentially cool streets, bars and markets of Camden NW1 remain a mecca for independent-minded folk. Hotels in Camden London tend to also reflect this hip lifestyle.

One hotel in Camden is ideally located to suit your locational requirements and that is the Holiday Inn Camden Lock perfectly situated by the side of the canal and very close to the Camden Market area.  If you need a hotel near The Roundhouse then the Camden Lock Hotel is opposite.  If you want a funky hotel in Camden which is also near to Euston Station then check out the MIC Hotel on Euston Street.

The Eurostar Terminal is also in this area.  If you require a hotel near to the St Pancras Eurostar Station then check out the Novotel St Pancras Hotel.

The home of London’s indie rock scene, Camden Town holds a unique place in British popular culture – musical movements can begin and end in a matter of weeks in the pubs around Parkway and Camden High Street, packed on and off-stage with young guitar-toting pretenders, and the thrill of knowing that bands you can see in Camden for a fiver now might later take over the world gives this area its palpable, addictive excitement.

The Good Mixer (30 Inverness Street, 020 7916 6176), now a fairly standard north London boozer was such a place in the 90s, with Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn and sundry members of Britpop bands like Elastica, Pulp and the dearly departed Menswear a constant fixture within its walls. Now, Camden rites of passage on the path to indie glory include the Barfly (49 Chalk Farm Road, 020 7424 0800, www.barflyclub.com), the Underworld (174 Camden High Street, 020 7482 1932, www.theunderworldcamden.co.uk) and the NME hack’s favourite, the Dublin Castle (94 Parkway, 020 7485 1773) – all offer sceney live music most nights.

Koko (1a Camden High Street, 0870 432 5527, www.koko.uk.com) is a gorgeous old theatre transformed into a glittering palace of indie clubbing: Coldplay, Prince and Pete Docherty’s Babyshambles were recent live guests, and the Jazz Café (5 Parkway, 0870 060 3777, www.jazzcafe.co.uk) has the best and biggest international names in soul, jazz, r’n’b and hip hop if all those sweaty white boys with guitars get a bit too much.

Elsewhere, Camden’s markets are world-famous: the Lock and Stables markets in particular are crammed with retro fashion, alternative accessories, world food, records, antiques, books, bric-a-brac and everything in-between. You can buy anything from a freshly cooked burrito to a Bob Marley-shaped bong, and there’s countless atmospheric cafes, bars and restaurants around to whet your whistle. The markets are open Thursday-Sunday

The best option for accommodation in Camden is the Camden Lock Hotel, situated right in the centre of Camden, just moments away from the markets, pubs, restaurants on the High Street.

Camden Town is on the Northern Line, two stops from Euston, Chalk Farm (north) and Mornington Crescent (south) stations are very nearby.
