Claridges, London

Situated in Londons prestigious Mayfair District, the sumptious and stylish Claridges Hotel lives up to all expectations and beyond. A wonderful retreat in a busy, bustling major city centre such as London...

Claridge's might easily be the most famous hotel in London, with enough prestige and royal history to gain it the nickname "Buckingham Palace Extension." This is clearly something more than your average five star hotel, established for almost 200 years and doubling as a veritable museum of the Art Deco movement. For those who come to London not to look at history, but to be a part of it, there is no finer choice.

Crucially, Claridge's designer rooms are the biggest in all of London. Space is always a luxury in this city but the luxury doesn't stop there. Each room features a completely individual design and offers all of the most decadent details from fresh flowers to complimentary shoe shine. Finely tuned technology includes free internet via either

WiFi or flatscreen television. Each of the suites is a legend in its own right, including the two penthouses and the Royal Suite designed around Gilbert & Sullivan's own grand piano.

Claridge's is the chosen home of one of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's two namesake restaurants, placing the hotel firmly on the culinary map of London with one of the most talked about dining experiences in the city. Second only to this is the afternoon tea served in the Reading Room, a regular award winner and among the most perfect traditional tea experiences available. The glamorous, original 1930s bar is another favourite.

The world class gym and treatment rooms are secluded on the sixth floor with inspiring views over the rooftops. For the most prestigious of events, the hotel boasts more than a century of experience with grand balls and pivotal conferences. The customised services and technology available for these are as sophisticated as one would expect, but what the venue really offers is the royal glamour and history associated with Claridge's.

We stayed for 3 nights celebrating our anniversary. Whilst I cannot praise the hotel itself highly enough, the guest rooms are now looking a little outdated. The common areas are beautiful and you must take one of the afternoon teas. Scrumptious. All in all an old lady whose slip is showing a little :-)
