Covent Garden is a small area of the West End close to the River Thames at Embankment. To the north is Holborn and to the west is Leicester Square. The "City of London" (Financial District) is 2.5 km to the east.

Attractions

Covent Garden is an essential visit for the visitor to London. It is especially good for families as there are street entertainers, shops and food outlets. In the evening it is a haunt of those going to shows who dine before or after. the area is very cultural and very safe, daytime or evening. Notable things to see include:

London Transport Museum
National Museum of the Performing Arts
Royal Opera House
St Paul's Church

The Covent Garden Piazza offers a diverse selection of unique shops and eateries. From Tuesday to Sunday inclusive, the Apple Market sells crafts ranging from clothes to clocks whilst the neighbouring Jubilee market varies according to the day. Monday is antiques and bric–a–brac and Tuesday to Friday is a general market with clothing, household goods and gifts. At the weekend there is a craft fair with in excess of 200 craftsmen.

Travel

Simple ! Covent Garden is served by the Covent Garden Station which is on the Piccadilly Line (fast access from South Kensington). You can also walk there in 5 minutes from Leicester Square, Charing Cross or Temple. Forget the car, its impossible to park.

In the immediate area of Covent Garden the hotels are expensive, very!
If budget is a serious consideration we suggest that you look at South Kensington which is only 15 minutes travel away by tube from Gloucester Road or South Kensington stations.

If you have a sensible budget for a Covent Garden hotel then consider the Strand Palace otherwise if you are prepared to walk for a kilometre or so then check out the Royal National which has rooms for up to 4 persons and secure car parking.
