The Danubius Hotel Regents Park - Comment: Many years ago, I used to think that this hotel location was not for me as I wanted easy access to very central areas and used to use Kensington and tube into the centre. I had a really pleasant surprise when I did eventually stay here because its nearer than what you imagine. In fact I have just checked on a map and its 1km closer to Oxford Circus than South Kensington. Unlike Kensington, this area is outside the London congestion zone so for you drivers thats 8 pounds a day saved. I can walk to Baker Street tube in 10 minutes and the St Johns tube is only a 5 minute walk from the Danubius and thats only 2 stops to Bond Street. Right outside the hotel a bus takes you to the side entrance of Selfridge's on Oxford Street or of course you can walk or tube it. Across the road is Regents Park and 10 minutes away is Primrose Hill with its magnificent view of the city skyline. Another advantage is its close proximity to Camden Market a must attraction for all ages and tastes (check out the Goths). This area is very up market with the super rich of St Johns Wood being only 5 minutes away, check out the High street where there are many cafes and restaurants including Cafe Rouge, Carluccios, The Duke of York with their famous Yorkie Wedges, and one of the best "greasy spoons" in London - The Gammon Rasher. You can also stroll up to Primrose Hill at the evening to celeb spot in the pubs and cafes. Remember the Zoo is here too. If you are flying into Stansted Airport then the National Express have a London transfer service which stops 200m from the hotel outside Lords Cricket Ground. The Danubius does not have a wow factor, its just a standard modern hotel aimed at weekday business trade but it has huge bar and lounge area and is generally in good condition. It also has a large car park under the building. Hotel Assist Verdict: Can be excellent value for money and I have seen rates as low as 80 pounds a night for 2 persons. Breakfast is expensive but on St Johns High Street there is the Gammon Rasher which offers belly buster full English, better than any hotel breakfast. Location is safe and convenient and the hotels bar at night is a lively affair with huge comfortable couches. Rooms are the usual London small side but well equipped if not a little overdue for refurbishment(but not seriously so). Unlike its west end competitors just 1km down the road you can have a quiets night sleep here. Its a good option if the price is right.
