Hotels in Hammersmith

There are several hotels in Hammersmith but the largest, most popular and best known is the Novotel London West Hotel next to the A4 arterial Road into central London from Heathrow.

A major retail, entertainment and transport centre in West London, Hammersmith has lots to see and do.  The A4 trunk road passes over Hammersmith Flyover  - this key road is busy 24/7 with access out of London to the M4, the west and London's premier airport, Heathrow Airport.

Hammersmith boasts a number of leading arts venues and the stunning new Westfield shopping complex.

There’s a lot happening culturally: walk down to the beautiful stretch of the Thames by Hammersmith Bridge and you’ll pass the Apollo (45 Queen Caroline Street, 08448 444748, www.hammersmithapollo.net), a concert hall and theatre that packs in 5,000 and has hosted landmark gigs from the likes of The Beatles, Kate Bush, David Bowie and Thin Lizzy in its illustrious past, as well as a number of live album recordings from its days as the Odeon.  The working, English Heritage-protected pipe organ inside dates back to the 30s, serving as a reminder of when the latest films were sound-tracked by its dulcet tones.

Riverside Studios (Crisp Road, 020 8237 1111, www.riversidestudios.co.uk) is close to the waterfront and has a superb programme of film, music, comedy and theatre, as well as one of the original BBC live TV studios and an excellent bar/cafe. The Lyric Theatre (King Street, 0870 050 0511, www.lyric.co.uk) is another brave performance space, offering West End quality entertainment in this corner of West London.

There are excellent high street shopping all around the Broadway, including branches of the twin towers of budget fashion, Primark (1 Kings Mall, 020 8748 7119) and TK Maxx (49-63 King Street, 020 8563 9200). And three stops on the Hammersmith & City Line at Wood Lane gets you to Westfield (uk.westfield.com/london), a colossal designer shopping complex with quality restaurants and acres of top fashion names.

For those wishing to stay in Hammersmith the Novotel London West is a perfect place to stay. Families are well catered for with on site parking and a some rooms large enough for children to share. The hotel can get busy when the nearby Earls Court Exhibition Centre &  Kensington Olympia stages shows.

There are two tube stations located opposite each other – the District and Piccadilly lines serve Hammersmith Underground, and Hammersmith & City is the western terminus of the line that bears its name.
