This is the Hotel-Assist.Com listing of London hotels near Madame Tussauds in central London
Madame Tussaud, a friend of Louis XVI's sister, arrived in England in 1802 fleeing from the French revolution. She brought with her a collection of death masks of guillotined aristocrats. First opened in The Strand, Madame Tussauds waxwork exhibition was later moved to Marylebone Road.
Madame Tussauds continued to grow as its creator added to her collection models of English murderers and body snatchers. Today you will find models of well known sports personalities, musicians and film stars, statesmen from around the world, and even the Royal Family.
All stars have their day, but what happens when popularity wanes? Have you ever wondered what fate befalls a redundant Madame Tussauds model? By visiting the room named "200 Years", you are about to find out. Not for the faint-hearted, you will find on a shelf the dismembered heads and limbs of personalities of yesteryear who have been superseded by today's celebrities. Before leaving this room do look for the model of Madame du Barry, this is the very first Madame Tussauds figure, but wait, take a closer look, is she breathing?
The Grand Hall, hung with chandeliers and lined with oil paintings, provides an appropriate setting for a get-together of royalty, statesmen, clerics and generals. All well-known personalities from medieval times to the present day, but do they look as if they are enjoying each other's company, or simply suffering in silence?
What everyone comes to see is the infamous Chamber of Horrors. Scared, horrified or frightened you may be, but you will not be disappointed, so be courageous and enter! Murderers from down the ages await you; some of the serial killers have a whole section of their own. Watch out for the guillotine - it is authentic! As you enter the reconstruction of a foggy street in the east end of Victorian London, well known to Jack the Ripper, you will gasp in horror at what you find there. All this and much more will keep the shivers running down your spine during your visit.
