Berkeley Square London W1
Berkeley Square W1 is located in the centre of Mayfair, close to the shopping areas of Oxford Street W1, New Bond Street W1 and Piccadilly W1. Built in the 1730's, to the plans of William Kent, Berkeley Square was named after the 1st Lord Berkeley of Stratton, a Royalist commander of the Civil War. Berkeley Square has junctions with streets including Bruton Street W1, Berkeley Street W1, Charles Street W1 and Davies Street W1.
Berkeley Square is home to the Robert Adam designed Lansdowne House, home of the exclusive Lansdowne Club, at its junction with Fitzmaurice Place W1. The Lansdowne Club, which has recently been extensively refurbished, is home to the stylish AQUA restaurant, a piano bar and a fitness centre with gym. The Benares restaurant is also located on Berkeley Square, at 12a Berkeley Square House. The Benares restaurant, one of London's finest, provides exceptional Indian dishes created by popular chef Atul Kochhar, and is open Sunday to Friday between 12.00pm-14.30pm for lunch and daily for dinner from 17.30pm-23.00pm Monday to Saturday, and between 18.00pm-22.30pm on Sundays.
Berkeley Square lies 500m north of Green Park, located behind Piccadilly. Other places of interest close to Berkeley Square include the Royal Academy of Arts (400m east), the Trocadero entertainment complex (800m east) and St. James's Palace (700m south-east). Berkeley Square is located close to the bus, taxi and London Underground services of Piccadilly and Park Lane W1. Green Park Underground Station, which provides Jubilee, Piccadilly and Victoria line services to destinations including Bond Street and Oxford Circus, stands 400m south-east of Berkeley Square.
