Golden Square London W1 is located close to Carnaby Street and Regent Street in the London postcode area, close to Fitzrovia, Mayfair and Soho.
Work first began to create Golden Square, which is linked to Upper John Street, Lower John Street, Upper James Street and Lower James Street, in 1675 and it was completed in the early 1700's.
The middle of Golden Square was dug up during World War Two and used as an air raid shelter.
Golden Square is located close to many West End attractions, including the Royal Academy of Arts, a vast collection of paintings and sculptures from world famous artists, located within the grand Burlington House, next to the Burlington Arcade on Piccadilly.
The spacious Green Park, which surrounds Buckingham Palace, is located 700m south-west of Golden Square. Golden Square lies 500m south of Oxford Street, home to department stores such as House of Fraser, John Lewis and the popular Selfridges.
Regent Street, which houses the world renowned Hamleys toy store, is situated 150m west of Golden Square.
The London Trocadero entertainment complex, home to a number of shops and a cinema, stands 300m south-east of Golden Square on Shaftesbury Avenue and Coventry Street.
Golden Square is situated 250m north-west of Piccadilly Circus Underground Station. Other London Underground stations in close proximity to Golden Square include Oxford Circus (500m north-west) and Tottenham Court Road (650m north-east).
