Goodge Street is located in the eastern section of London in the Fitzrovia area, between Mortimer Street at its west end, leading east into Tottenham Court Road.
Goodge Street was originally the site of a meadow known as Crab Tree Field which belonged to the wife of a carpenter called John Goodge, whose family began developing the site in the 1740's.
Goodge Street has junctions with a number of busy streets in the area such as Cleveland Street and Charlotte Street. Goodge Street is home to a variety of bars and restaurants serving a wide range of cuisines.
The Goodge Restaurant, located at 62 Goodge Street, serves a variety of reasonably priced international dishes in an informal atmosphere.
There is also a stylish bar at the Goodge Restaurant, popular with both local workers and leisure travellers, open between 11.00am-23.00pm Monday to Saturday and from 12.00pm-22.30 on Sundays.
Goodge Street is also located close to La Perla, a lively Mexican bar and restaurant situated at 11 Charlotte Street. La Perla provides contemporary Mexican food alongside traditional tapas dishes in a fun environment, popular with visitors for the extensive collection of drinks available.
Goodge Street is also home to The Northumberland Arms, a traditional British pub which stands at 43 Goodge Street.
Goodge Street lies close to a number of places of interest within west London, such as the unique Pollocks Toy Museum, located at 1 Scala Street. The Pollocks Toy Museum, which has been on Scala Street since 1969, is situated within two historical town houses, from the 18th and 19th centuries and houses a large collection of traditional toys and games. The museum is open between 10.00am-17.00pm Monday to Saturday.

Goodge Street Underground Station, which provides Northern line services, is located on Tottenham Court Road, close to its junction with Goodge Street. Travellers can reach Waterloo, home of the London terminal for the Eurostar from Goodge Street Station.
Other London Underground stations close to Goodge Street include Warren Street (500m north) and Tottenham Court Road, located 500m south-east. The number 73 bus, which stops at places including Euston, Kings Cross and Oxford Circus, runs through Tottenham Court Road with stops close to Goodge Street.
