Hotels near to Harrods can be very expensive as they are mainly 4 and 5 star standard.  If you are seeking a luxury hotel close to Harrods then there are several choices including the globally known Mandarin Oriental London (5 star), the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel (5 star), the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel (4 star) and the Cadogan Hotel (5 star).

Cheaper hotels near to Harrods include the 4 star Rembrandt Hotel which is opposite the Victoria and Albert Museum and just a 10 minute easy walk from Harrods. The Rembrandt Hotel is situated in a prominent position on Thurloe Place, a location it has occupied for generations. On the borders of both South Kensington and Knightsbridge, it is in an excellent location for visitors to London, be it on a business trip or for pleasure.

Just a 20 minute walk away or two stops (5 mins) on the tube is the Montana Hotel in South Kensington.  This nice three star hotel is in an excellent upmarket area surrounded by shops and restaurants.  Also in this area to the west of Harrods is the Amsterdam Hotel London, holder of the best Bed and Breakfast in London 2010.

If you are planning to visit London during Summer then you can also stay in the Basywater area and stroll through Hyde Park to visit Harrods. A good cheap hotel in Bayswater London is the Holiday Villa Hotel.

Our Advice for a Hotel near to Harrods

If you have a large budget then use one of the above mentioned luxury hotels in Knightsbridge.  However if you have a sensible or even tight budget then we recommend that you stay in South Kensington which is easily walkable to Harrods.  The tube from Gloucester Road takes only 5 minutes.

The previous owner, Mohammed Al Fayed, purchased Harrods in 1985, its place as the world's premier department store was already firmly established - but he realised that much still needed to be done in order to prepare it for the decades ahead. He instigated a massive £400 million refurbishment project in order to return the 'Palace in Knightsbridge' to its former glory. Every corner of the building received Mr Al Fayed's attention and, as well as refurbishing the fabric of the building - including the exquisite Edwardian terracotta facade - enchanting new rooms and facilities were added.

Two of the most spectacular additions pay homage to Mohammed Al Fayed's heritage - and it is impossible for visitors to the store not to be transfixed by the spectacular Central Egyptian Escalator completed in 1997 and the grand Egyptian Halls.  There is also a bronze statue of the late Princess of Wales and her lover Dodi Fayed.
