ABOUT LONDON ZOO:-
Situated on the Northern edge of Regents Park the zoo attracts visitors from all over the UK and beyond. Originally set up as a scientific study and research facility in 1828, it later opened up to the public and became a zoo in 1847. The Regents Canal runs through the zoo.
Home to many different species of animal London zoo has had a fair few famous characters who called London zoo home. Going back as far back as 1865 there was the famous Elephant "Jumbo", the largest elephant at the time who lived at London zoo. "Chi Chi" the giant Panda also made London Zoo home, she arrived in 1958 and lived until July 1972 her death was mourned by many. Another long term resident was 'Guy' the Gorilla who lived until he was 32 years old, Guy was a huge attraction at the zoo, he is now commemorated with a bronze statue at the zoo. Another resident was a Canadian Bear from Winnipeg (winnie) who became rather famous after a father and son visited the zoo, the son was Christopher Robin and the father A A Milne, Author who later related tales of a bear named Winnie in the famous Winne-the-Pooh books. All stemming from their visit to London Zoo.
These days the gorilla kingdom is a very popular attraction and home to an amazing colony of west lowland gorillas.
Refreshments are available at the zoo with a self service cafe serving food and snacks throughout the day. Parking is available on site and there is a charge.
Tickets can be bought at the gate or online. Offers such as 2 tickets for 1 can sometimes be found.
London zoo offers a great day out for adults and children of all ages.
