Montagu Square London is located in the north-west of the West End area, between Montagu Place and George Street in Marylebone.
Montagu Square, which runs parallel to Gloucester Place was designed by Joseph Parkinson, as a twin to nearby Bryanston Square. Built in 1811, Montagu Square was named after Mrs Elizabeth Montagu, who lived on Portman Square and befriended David Porter, who built Montagu Square.
Many early 19th century buildings remain on Montagu Square today. Montagu Square leads into Montagu Place, home to the Montagu Place Hotel, at its northern end.
The Montagu Place Hotel, located at 2 Montagu Place, is a small 16 room boutique establishment, within a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse. This luxurious hotel, which extensive facilities and a 24 hour bar, is ideal for both business and leisure travellers to the Marylebone area of west London.
38 Montagu Square was owned by Beatle Ringo Starr between 1965-1969, who once rented this grand townhouse to Jimi Hendrix.
Montagu Square lies close to a number of popular areas of west London, such as Oxford Street, home to department stores such as House of Fraser and Selfridges, as well as fashion stores from chains such as Topshop, H&M and Zara (500m south).
Other places of interest within reach of Montagu Square include Regent's Park, home to London Zoo (700m north) and the Wallace Collection, located in Hertford House, Manchester Square (400m east).
Montagu Square is located close to a number of London Underground stations, such as Marble Arch, which runs Central line services to destinations such as Bond Street, Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road. Other London Underground stations near Montagu Street include Baker Street (600m north-east) and Marylebone, which also runs National Rail services (500m north-west).
