Wimpole Street is located between the areas of Fitzrovia and Marylebone in west London.
Wimpole Street runs north from Henrietta Place into Weymouth Street, where it continues as Upper Wimpole Street.
Wimpole Street was laid around 1724 and named after the area of Wimpole in Cambridgeshire, part of the estate of the ground landlord Edward Harley, the 2nd Earl of Oxford who gave Harley Street its name.
Wimpole Street, which has junctions with New Cavendish Street, Queen Anne Street and Wigmore Street, is home to a number of dental and medical practices.
Paul McCartney lived at 57 Wimpole Street between 1964 and 1966. Elizabeth Browning lived at #50.
Wimpole Street is home to the headquarters of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), located in an impressive building at 1 Wimpole Street. The RSM headquarters have recently been redeveloped and boast a 300 seat auditorium which is available for hire, in addition to meeting facilities and a stylish restaurant.
Wimpole Street lies 150m east of the popular Holiday Inn Oxford Circus Hotel, which provides West End accommodation at 57-59 Welbeck Street. Oliver's Restaurant and the Londoner's Bar are both available for guests and visitors to the Holiday Inn Oxford Circus.
Wimpole Street is situated 300m west of BBC Broadcasting House, located on Portland Place, close to the luxurious Langham Hotel on Langham Place.
The impressive Wigmore Hall, which holds a wide range of classical music events, stands 100m west of Wimpole Street on Wigmore Street.
The popular shopping areas of Oxford Street and Regent Street are within easy reach of Wimpole Street.
Wimpole Street lies 300m north-east of Bond Street Underground Station, which provides Central and Jubilee line services to destinations including Marble Arch and Tottenham Court Road. Other London Underground stations close to Wimpole Street include Oxford Circus (400m south-east) and Regent's Park (450m north-east).
