Marble Arch is known as the gateway to Oxford Street and all its shopping treats and as it also sits right by Speakers Corner in Hyde Park, Marble Arch station is a good place to jump out to begin a day of exploring London. If you head north-west out of the station you will find Edgware Road, an area best known for its middle-eastern restaurants and shops. Head south and you'll discover Park Lane which runs south along the edge of Hyde Park and is where some of the most luxurious hotels in the world can be found. As the station entrance is on Oxford Street, directly to the east of the station is where the shopping starts, and although this end isn't where you'll find the greatest of shops, just walk a little further down and you will soon find all the goodies.
The designer shopper's paradise of Bond Street is about half way down Oxford Street and the funky (yet grungy) district of Soho is further on still, after Oxford Circus, where bar and shop lined streets such as Carnaby, Wardour, and Dean can be found as well as the public garden space, Soho Square. Head south-east of the station and you'll find yourself amongst the plush restaurants, public squares, hotels and hairdressers of Mayfair along with the lively bar and restaurant filled Shepherd Market, and directly to the west of Marble Arch station is Hyde Park and the districts of Bayswater, with Bayswater Road running all the way to Queensway, and Paddington where from the infamous Paddington Station you can catch the Heathrow Express train.
Hotels near to Marble Arch are plentiful and vary from budget in the area to the west (Bayswater) to 5 star in the Mayfair area to the south. Of note is the Cumberland Hotel which is only 3 or 4 minute walk away. This deluxe hotel has been completely restyled into a 21st century contemporary building and has great weekend rates. Also very close is the Leonard Hotel another upmarket 4 star. Durrants Hotel is only 600m to the north east and offers a traditional but very upmarket style of accommodation
