Hotels near to Oxford Circus London tend to be quite expensive and of a 4 or 5 star calibre. If price is an important issue then look just a ten minute walk to the west at hotels in Marble Arch at the top of Oxford Street.
One of the closest hotels to Oxford Circus is the Grange Langham Court Hotel just two or three minutes walk away near the BBC building. Whilst classified as a 4 star, we prefer to think of this one as a good three star. The Grange Langham Court is especially good for the London Palladium theatre.
Also close to the London Palladium is the Courthouse Hotel which, as the name suggests, is a converted 19th century London courthouse which still retains a court and a cell. This 5 star hotel is in our opinion one of the best hotels in London.
Five or ten minutes easy walk to the west of Oxford Circus towards Marble Arch, is the Cumberland Hotel London. This newly refurbished deluxe hotel has over 1000 bedrooms and multiple restaurants and bars, all to a very high standard. Our prices at the Cumberland can be very competitive so it is well worth checking out.
Areas close to Oxford Circus, ie walking distance, offering an additional choice of hotel are Marble Arch, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury, Mayfair and Soho.
Oxford Circus Guide
The principal arrival point for London's busiest shopping streets, Oxford Circus is on the junction of Regent Street and Oxford Street, and is always packed out with retail therapists. Though there's a few too many tatty tourist-oriented stores at the Tottenham Court Road end, Oxford Street remains one of the capital's top shopping hotspots - particularly for lovers of high street fashion, sportswear and entertainment.
The Circus itself is dominated by NikeTown (236 Oxford Street, 020 7612 0800, www.niketown.com), a cross between a theme park and temple to the sneaker gods, and the even more impressive Top Shop (216 Oxford Street, 020 7499 2917, www.topshop.com). This branch of Britain's favourite budget chain is the world's largest fashion store, with everything from vintage and one-off designs to live bands soundtracking the throngs of trendy youths within. Oxford Street also has colossal flagship branches of HMV (150 Oxford Street, 020 7631 3423, www.hmv.com), Primark (499-517 Oxford Street, 020 7495 0420, www.primark.co.uk) and Borders (203 Oxford Street, 020 7292 1600, www.borders.co.uk) each of which you can comfortably get lost in for an afternoon.
The grand curves of Regent Street are home another major tourist destination-cum-retailer: Hamleys (188-196 Regent Street, 0870 333 2455, www.hamleys.com) the beloved toy shop where visitors with children can spend a whole day gazing wide-eyed at the in-store magicians, teddies and floor after floor after floor of toys, games and activities. And then there's style mecca Liberty's, two minutes from Oxford Circus, and the nearby designer boutiques of Bond Street, South Molton Street and the resurgent Carnaby Street, known as the centre of Swinging London fashion in the 60s and now bustling with all the big names in street fashion.
On the edge of Soho's cosmopolitan socialising vibe with some of the capital's best range of restauran ts, Oxford Circus is maybe the best place to start exploring central London - if you can brave the always-heaving crowds.
Oxford Circus Underground is served by the Victoria, Central and Bakerloo Lines.
