Hotels in Paddington

Hotels in Paddington tend to be in the Bayswater area to the west of Paddington Station and are in general mainly 2 and 3 star categories.  One exception is the Royal Park Hotel, a 4 star townhouse type accommodation in Paddington. Another is the Quality Crown Paddington Hotel on Praed Street and very close to the Heathrow Express terminal at Paddington Station.

If you are looking for a cheap Paddington hotel then check out the Bayswater Inn Hotel which is basic but excellent value for money. In the same price bracket but more modern is the Paddington Hotel on Gloucester Terrace and walking distance to Paddington Station and Marble Arch.

The Norfolk Towers Hotel is also close to the Paddington station area between Praed Street and Sussex Gardens.  This no frills budget hotel offers great prices but is a little outdated.

New in Paddington is the Shaftesbury Premier London Paddington Hotel which is a 4 star offering very low prices close to Paddington Station.

Recommended Paddington Hotels:

It is symptomatic of the hotels in Bayswater that some are a little run down in comparison to say Kensington hotels or the more expensive hotels near Marble Arch. As there is no formal star rating system in London we advise that with the exception of the good 4 star types already mentioned, you deduct one star from the rating.  Do this, and if on a budget, you will not be disappointed.

There are notable exceptions to this observation. The Darlington Hyde Park Hotel constantly ranks in the top value for money hotels listing for London.  This 40 bed 3 star in Paddington is a fantastic choice and one we can totally recommend. We also have the Delmere Hotel on Sussex Gardens which has won many awards.  This 2 star which offers orthopaedic mattresses is worth checking out. We have a hotel in Bayswater which neighbours Paddington which is well worth consideration because of the good prices. The Ramada Hyde Park London overlooks the park and from here you can walk across to Kensington.

Paddington - World-famous as where a little bear in a marmalade-stained dufflecoat washed up on his first visit to London. There’s a statue of Paddington Bear inside the Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Paddington station

There’s not an awful lot to do in the immediate, largely commercial locale, but you’re within 15 minutes walk of some richly diverse London experiences. Head south to splendid Hyde Park, with the Serpentine winding through one of the city’s most beautifully landscaped green areas including Kensington Gardens, popular Kensington Palace, a royal palace open to the public (Palace Green, 0870 751 5170, www.hrp.org.uk) and the outstanding triumvirate of museums at the park’s south gates by the Albert Memorial: the Science Museum (Exhibition Road, 0870 870 4868, www.sciencemuseum.org.uk), Natural History Museum (15 Cromwell Place, 020 7942 5000, www.nhm.ac.uk) and the Victoria & Albert Museum (Cromwell Road, 020 7942 2000, www.vam.ac.uk).

Edgware Road east of Paddington has always been a bit exotic: it was the site of the UK’s first Indian restaurant in 1810. Now, it’s an incredibly sensory place as the centre of Arabic London – shisha smoke fills the air, proper kebab restaurants open through the night and films in Arabic play at the local Odeon. ‘Little Beirut’ was described by the Iranian comedian Omid Djallili as “The most Islamic place in the world – after Mecca”. There’s also three golden triangles marking the site of the Tyburn Tree, the principal place of execution by hanging in London back in the day. There’s a lovely walk along London’s canals to Little Venice in the north: check out the Canal Caf ute; Theatre (Bridge House, Delamere Terrace, 020 7289 6054, www.canalcafetheatre.com) for excellent food and great comedy.

For accommodation, Paddington has a plethora of hotels & small B&B's, neighbouring Bayswater is also popular for those tourists wishing to stay in central London on a budget.  A couple of tried and tested hotels to recommend are: The Holiday Villa Hotel and the Blakemore Hotel

Paddington is home to a major rail interchange and lies half a mile north of Hyde Park. , a huge transport hub for the west of England and Wales, served by the District, Circle, Bakerloo, and Hammersmith & City Underground lines and the departure point for the Heathrow Express fast train to London’s major airport in the west of the city.
