Hotels in Victoria London used to be almost all bed and breakfasts but over the last few years this has become a more desirable area for accommodation due to its central location. Now Victoria hotels range up to 5 star category whilst there are also some very good quality budget hotels.
Hotels in Victoria are plentiful and are from backpacker around the station up to 4 and 5 star which are usually away from the station.
The 41 Hotel London, located in Victoria, is one of Londons top rated hotels and has been ranked as one of the top 100 globally. Situated next to the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, Hotel 41 is in a very central position to access central London.
Also very worthy of a mention is the Rubens Hotel London which is a highly rated 4 star which offers sensible prices. The Rubens Hotel is only a 5 minute walk from Victoria Station.
A good budget hotel in Victoria is the Enrico Hotel which is a 2 star bed and breakfast just 5 minutes from Victoria station.
Victoria is named after Queen Victoria and close to the big tourist sights of Buckingham Palace and Westminster, Victoria is, along with Kings Cross, Euston, Waterloo and London Bridge, one of the capital’s key transport centres.
Victoria is the busiest tube station on the network with nearly 80 million passengers each year, and the rail interchange serves Kent, Surrey and Sussex with overground services, as well as fast trains to Gatwick Airport and Brighton. Victoria Coach Station is also a ten minute walk from the main station, London’s biggest bus and coach interchange serving destinations all over the UK and Europe.
As well as the obvious transport benefits, as a place to stay Victoria is fantastic, within very easy walking distance of many of the city’s tourist landmarks. St James’s Park just north of Victoria has camera-friendly squirrels, a gorgeous duck lake and, of course, Buckingham Palace (St James’s Park, 020 7930 4832, www.royal.gov.uk), home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and since 1993 open to tourists on selected days of the year. Look for the Royal Standard (a red and yellow flag that only flies when the Queen is in residence as opposed to the Union Jack signifying that Her Majesty is ‘out’) and ready your cameraphones for the Changing of the Guard ceremony, which usually takes place at 11am.
Also very close to Victoria is the breathtaking Westminster Cathedral (42 Francis Street, 020 7798 9055, www.westminstercathedral.org.uk), England and Wales’ primary Catholic church and stunningly designed in the Byzantine style.
Continue along Victoria Street to Westminster dominated by the iconic Houses of Parliament (www.parliament.uk) and Big Ben, the huge golden clocktower standing watch over the seat of British government.
There’s two excellent theatres by Victoria Station – the Apollo Victoria (17 Wilton Road, 020 7834 6318, www.apollovictoria.co.uk) and the Victoria Palace Theatre (Victoria Street, 0844 248 5000, www.victoriapalacetheatre.co.uk) – and you’re not far from Tate Britain (Millbank, 020 7887 8888, http://www.victoriapalacetheatre.co.uk), the brother of the colossal Tate Modern on the South Bank and a superb gallery of British art in its own right.
The Circle, District and Victoria Underground lines call at Victoria as well as the numerous rail services.
